Treating Hair Loss In Women
Men are not the only ones who experience hair loss. Unbeknownst to most, women may experience hair loss and female pattern baldness. Our Gainesville Hair Transplant Center understands that women experience hair loss and often suffer alone as the abundance of information regarding hair loss is generally targeted towards men. We are focused and dedicated to providing our female patients with the information, support and understanding approach that this issue demands.
Much like male pattern baldness, female pattern baldness is the most common type of hair loss for females and is genetically caused. Women also experience hair loss caused by the following.
Women typically notice hair thinning along the part on the scalp and hair normally continues to thin causing the part to widen. The hairline is susceptible to normal, age-related recession but is not correlated to hair loss or female pattern baldness.
A thorough consultation and physical exam allow our plastic surgeons to diagnose the cause of your hair loss. Your hair loss will also be compared to the Ludwig Classification scale. If female pattern baldness is observed, your physician will examine your follicles to attempt to locate shrinking follicles. In women, female pattern baldness is caused by genetically sensitive follicles — these follicles are sensitive to the sex hormone called androgen. This sensitivity causes follicles to shrink which interrupts and damages the hair growth cycle.
Depending on your exact diagnosis and symptoms, female patients may able to take part in the following treatments.
Our Gainesville office offers NeoGraft treatments to our patients looking to stimulate hair growth. Our NeoGraft procedure utilizes Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). This is a non-surgical hair treatment that utilizes your own healthy hair follicles. During your procedure, your physician will use the NeoGraft machine to gently remove your healthy follicles. These follicles are sorted while the treatment area is prepared. Once your numbed scalp is ready for implantation, your follicle grafts are inserted into your scalp. Patients can expect little discomfort, no linear scars and new hair growth in several months. As this method does require the harvested area to be shaved, we suggest utilizing an area that may be hidden by longer sections of hair if you wish to maintain a certain hairstyle.
